On the 15th of November, 2024, the officers of the various Decentralized Departments of the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly in Walewale and some Civil Society Organizations within the municipality have been trained on the right to information Act, ACT 2019, ACT 898.
This Act was passed by the Parliament of Ghana in 2019 and assented to by the President in the same year to give constitutional right to access information held by public institutions in Ghana.
The training which was facilitated by Mr. Adam Abdul Rashid Wumbei; the Officer in charge of mobilization and engagement for Empowerment For Life program (E4L), sought to equip the officers with the practical understanding of the Act, how to apply it and how to comply with its constitutional dictates.
Having gone through the training, participants expressed their excitement for the opportunity and expressed their readiness to participate in many more of such trainings.
Mr. Wumbei again added that, they have held similar training at the regional level and in two other districts before West Mamprusi Municipality.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Mustafa Umar, the Assistant Director 1 for West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly said ‘the right to information Act has come to stay so there is the need for public officers to get to understand it better in order to be able to comply with it’.
He further thanked E4L for such a beneficial initiative and called for more of it’s type.
