SASSA R350 Status Check 2025 – See If You Qualify

Submit Your SASSA Appeal Online – Updated 2025 Guide

The social relief of distress (SRD) grant administered by SASSA is sometimes still referred to as the “R350 Grant”, though its value has increased.

If you applied or plan to apply for the SRD grant in 2025, you should know whether you qualify, how to check your application status, and what each status result means.

What is the SRD grant (formerly R350) and who is eligible?

The SRD grant is a monthly payment by SASSA to assist unemployed persons who do not receive other social grants and who meet other criteria.

It used to be the R350 grant, but is now commonly called the “R370 grant” (or similar) in 2025.

Eligibility:

  1. You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylum-permit holder.
  2. You must be between 18 and 59 years old (for the SRD grant).
  3. You must not receive any other SASSA social grant for yourself (though a grant for a child may be allowed).
  4. Your income and assets must fall under the means test set by SASSA (the threshold changes).
  5. You must submit a complete application and provide accurate banking/identity details.

If you meet these conditions and your application is approved, you can receive monthly payments but first, you can check your status online.

How do I check my SRD status online in 2025?

To check your SRD status, you can use several official and alternative methods:

  1. Online via the official portal: Visit the SASSA SRD website and click the section labeled “Check Status”. Enter your 13-digit ID number and the mobile phone number you used in your application.
  2. WhatsApp: Save the official number (for example, 082 046 8553) to your contacts. Send a message like “STATUS” or “SASSA” and follow prompts (you’ll need your ID and phone number).
  3. USSD / Dial code: On your registered phone number, dial a code like *120*69277# or *120*3210#. Choose the menu for SRD status and enter your ID when prompted.
  4. Phone call/helpline: Call SASSA’s toll-free number (for example, 0800 60 10 11) from the phone number you used to apply, provide your ID and follow voice prompts.

Using one of these methods, you can see your application status (Approved, Pending, Declined), and if Approved, you may also get your payment window or payday.

What status results might I see and what do they mean?

When you check your status, you might see:

  1. Approved: Your application has been accepted. The system may show your specific payday or payment window.
  2. Pending / Under Review: SASSA is still verifying your identity, banking, income, or other details. You must wait until it clears.
  3. Declined / Rejected: Your application was not approved, often because you did not meet eligibility requirements (income threshold, receipt of another grant, incorrect details).
  4. Bank details pending / verification needed: Your application may be approved, but payment delayed because your banking or ID details are not fully verified.

Understanding your status helps you know what step to take next.

How will I know when I’ll get paid if my status is Approved?

Once your status is approved, your payday depends on the monthly batch schedule SASSA uses for SRD grants

Because the SRD payments are not paid at the very start of each month like some other grants, you’ll often see a payment window or specific date when your funds will be released.

For example, the payment window in one month is noted as sometime toward the end of the month.

When you check your status, if “Payday” or “Payment window” appears, that is your cue when you can expect the funds.

If only “Approved” appears with no date yet, you may still need to wait for your batch to be scheduled.

What should I do if my status is Pending or I’m Declined?

If “Pending”:

  1. Make sure your banking details are correct and belong to you (account in your own name).
  2. Check that the phone number and ID used in the application match your records at Home Affairs and with your bank.
  3. Respond promptly to any SMS or WhatsApp link for verification from SASSA.

If “Declined”:

  1. Review the reason if given (for example, you received another grant, your income is above the threshold, or incorrect details).
  2. If you believe the decision is wrong, you may be able to appeal or reapply for a future month once you meet eligibility.
  3. Ensure you update any changes (income, bank, status) before the next application cycle.

Can I apply again or appeal if I was declined?

Yes, if your application for a given month was declined, you can either apply in a later month (if you then meet eligibility) or file an appeal, where available.

Some key points:

  1. Appeals should be lodged within the timeframe specified by SASSA or the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) for SRD grants.
  2. Reapplication means you submit a fresh application in a subsequent month when the application portal is open.
  3. Until your application says “Approved,” you will not have a payment date assigned.

What key eligibility changes and updates should I know for 2025?

  1. The SRD grant amount moved from “R350” (its original name) to a higher amount (commonly “R370” in 2025) as per the latest published figures.
  2. Verification (including e-KYC / biometric checks) has been strengthened — applicants must ensure details submitted match government records.
  3. Status check methods continue to expand (online portal, WhatsApp, USSD), giving more access options.
  4. Payment windows may shift slightly each month depending on processing, bank holidays, or system loads.
