SASSA SRD Status Check – Find Out If Your Payment Is Ready

SASSA Social Grant Payment Schedule for October 2025

When you apply for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant (commonly called the R370 grant), you want to know whether your application is approved and if your payment is on the way.

SASSA provides several official tools to check your SRD status in 2025.

This article explains how to check, what each status means, and what to do next.

What is the official website to check SRD status?

The primary method is the SASSA SRD portal. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za, then navigate to the “Check Status” or “Status” option under the SC-19 program.

Enter your 13-digit South African ID number and the cell phone number you used when you applied.

The portal will return your status (approved, declined, pending) and, if approved, the payment date.

If your ID and phone number match the original application, the portal should deliver accurate information.

Can I check SRD status via SMS or WhatsApp?

Yes. These are official alternatives:

  • SMS: Type STATUS <space> IDnumber and send it to 32555 from the phone number you used for the application. You will receive a reply with your SRD status and, if approved, payment date.
  • WhatsApp: Save 082 046 8553 in your contacts. Send a message, follow prompts to enter your ID and phone number, and you’ll get your status via WhatsApp.

These methods are useful if the website is slow or inaccessible.

Can I dial a number to check SRD status?

Yes. Use the SASSA toll-free helpline 0800 60 10 11.

When connected, follow the voice prompts and provide your ID number and the phone number used in your application.

The system or operator will inform you whether your application is approved, declined, or pending, and if approved, give the payment date.

Be prepared for waiting times, especially during peak periods.

What do the various statuses mean?

When you check your SRD status, it may display one of several outcomes:

  1. Approved: Your application passed all checks. You will be paid according to the SRD schedule.
  2. Pending: SASSA is still verifying your data, bank details, or income. No final decision has been made.
  3. Declined / Rejected: Your application did not meet eligibility or verification criteria.
  4. Failed / Identity verification failed: SASSA could not confirm your identity or data. You may need to correct or resubmit information.
  5. Referred: Your case is flagged for additional review by SASSA or supporting departments.

Knowing exactly which status you see helps guide your next steps.

When are SRD payments made if approved?

SRD payments (R370 grant) are typically processed in the last week of each month.

For example, payment windows in several months of 2025 have been between the 25th and 30th.

Once the status is approved, funds are allocated and deposited into the bank account or payment method you specified.

If your payment is delayed, it might be due to bank processing or incorrect banking information.

What do I do if my application is declined?

You may appeal. Use the official SASSA appeal portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals

You need to enter your ID and phone number, and possibly provide reasons and supporting documents to challenge the decision.

Also, SASSA has a “reconsideration” process for cases where identity verification or data mismatch causes a rejection.

That page is at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reconsideration.

Monitor your appeal status regularly using the same portal.

What should I do if the status check fails or shows errors?

If you can’t retrieve your status:

  1. Confirm your ID number and phone number are exactly those used in your SRD application. Mistakes cause errors.
  2. Try alternative methods (SMS, WhatsApp, phone call) while the portal is down.
  3. Clear your browser cache or try a different browser or device.
  4. Wait and try during off-peak hours, because heavy traffic may slow the system.
  5. If all else fails, visit your nearest SASSA regional office with your ID and application details. Ask the staff to assist you with a status check.

Using multiple channels improves your chance of getting an accurate update.
